A lightweight, insulated tiled roof that turns the conservatory into a proper room you can use all year.

For most people who want to use the room all year, a lightweight tiled roof is the best replacement: it is the warmest in winter, coolest in summer and quietest in rain. If you want to keep the light, choose solar control glass or a hybrid roof with glazed panels. If budget is tight, insulated roof panels are the cheapest route to a warmer room.
"Warm roof" describes how a roof is insulated: the insulation sits above the rafters so the whole structure stays warm. Most replacement tiled conservatory roofs are built this way, and Guardian sells its system under the name Guardian Warm Roof. So most tiled conservatory roofs are warm roofs, but a warm roof can be finished in tiles, slate or another covering.
Most uPVC and aluminium conservatories in sound condition can take a lightweight solid roof, with added structural support. Timber frames need checking carefully. The survey should confirm the frames, dwarf walls and base can carry the load, and building control will want to see that too.
