Equinox roof review

Equinox is a tiled replacement roof for an existing conservatory, made by Eurocell, the Derbyshire company best known for PVC-U window profiles and its trade branches. It gives you lightweight tiles or slate outside and a plastered or timber-clad ceiling inside, and it goes down to a lower pitch than most tiled systems, which matters if you have a shallow lean-to.

Unlike the smaller roof specialists, the maker is a listed company with a large distribution network. That does not make the installer any better, but it does mean the system itself comes from an established business with public accounts.

Who makes the Equinox roof?

Eurocell plc (company 08654028) was incorporated in August 2013 and is listed on the London Stock Exchange as ECEL. Its trading companies include Eurocell Group Ltd, which dates from 1988 and was formerly H.L. Plastics Ltd. The head office and distribution centre are at South Normanton, near Alfreton in Derbyshire. In its 2025 results Eurocell reported revenue of £403.5 million and 215 branches, said it recycles about 3 million PVC window frames a year, and announced Will Truman as chief executive from 9 February 2026. No insolvency appears on the register for the plc.

Eurocell’s 2020 press coverage dates the launch of Equinox to 2013 (ExpertSure says 2015). Later versions added styrene insulation, a thicker OSB deck, SlateSkin sheet tiles and slate-effect Envirotile.

How the Equinox roof is built

Eurocell’s system guide and brochures describe:

• Aluminium rafters separated from an OSB timber deck to form a ventilated air gap (12mm OSB in the 2023 trade guide, 18mm in the 2021 consumer brochure).
• Flush-fitting rafters, a variable ring beam with an optional soffit ring beam, and box gutters.
• High performance styrene insulation in a multi-layer design intended to limit condensation.
• A variable pitch of 5 to 35 degrees (5 degrees only with SlateSkin), or fixed 15 and 25 degree aluminium options.
• Structural support mullions where the existing frames are not reinforced.

That 5 degree option makes Equinox one of the few tiled systems suited to a very low lean-to conservatory. Construction Update reported delivery in 6 working days. Equinox literature describes a two-day install with a three-person team, watertight on day one; ExpertSure says 3 to 5 days on site for a standard Edwardian and 5 to 7 for Victorian or P-shaped roofs.

Equinox tile options

Equinox offers more tile types than most rivals:

• Envirotile: recycled polymer tiles, which Eurocell says have 75% recycled content. Textured Brown, Slate Grey and Anthracite Black, or slate-effect Brown, Slate Grey and Anthracite Grey. 25-year tile guarantee.
• Composite slate: limestone and polypropylene, BBA certified. Brick Red, Chestnut, Pewter Grey, Plum, Stone Black, Red Rock and Slate Grey. Up to 40 years.
• Steel shingle: up to 40 years.
• SlateSkin: GRP sheets with a slate effect, pre-cut in the kit. The only finish that allows 5 degrees. 25 years.

Fascias and gutters come in Eurocell PVC-U colours including White, Cream, Golden Oak, Irish Oak, Grey, Black Ash and Anthracite Grey, so they can match Eurocell windows. Our guide to lightweight roof tiles compares the materials.

Equinox roof cost in 2026

Eurocell does not publish prices. ExpertSure’s Equinox review (May 2026) gives fitted prices including VAT of £8,500 to £13,500, and £10,500 to £12,500 for a 15 to 20 m² Victorian roof. ConservatoryCost.com gives £950 to £1,500 per m² installed (June 2026).

Who sells and fits Equinox?

Equinox is supplied through Eurocell and its fabricators, for example PCL Building Products, to independent installers. ExpertSure estimates about 40 approved Equinox dealers. As with every system here, the dealer carries out the survey, handles building control and gives the workmanship guarantee.

Equinox problems and reviews

Eurocell plc had 4.6 out of 5 from 9,039 Trustpilot reviews on 27 September 2026, but most of the complaints concern delivery tracking and branch collection, so that score tells you about trade and DIY purchases rather than roof installations. We found no pattern of Equinox roof complaints.

The documented drawbacks:

Verdict: who Equinox suits

Equinox suits you if you have a low lean-to, want a real choice of tile material (including high recycled content), or have Eurocell windows and want matching fascias. It suits you less if you want the lightest possible roof, or if you want an insurance-backed system guarantee as standard.

When you get quotes, ask the Equinox dealer which tile and U-value you are getting, whether structural calculations or support mullions are included, and how the workmanship guarantee is protected if the firm stops trading.
